%X0E% TBBS operates, unattended, 24 hours a day, on a single
IBM PC or compatible, running under PS- or MS-DOS. No
LAN or multi-tasking software is required. TBBS supports
any combination of up to 96 dial-up, hard-wired, data
PBX and X.25 PAD lines simultaneously.%X03%

The Bread Board System - at first, you may be struck by the
simplicity of the idea.

Now look again. You'll quickly begin to think of the possibilities
as you see TBBS' power and features.

There's local and wide-area electronic messaging, data file sharing and
customer support capability. There are areas for real-time interactive
user conferences and target-audience polling. You discover optional
expansion capabilities, such dBASE-compatible information management
and display, and complete store-and-forward e-mail.

Knowing that the best solutions are the least complex ones, Phil Becker,
designer of TBBS, created an online information management system that
rivals the power of mainframes and functionality of minicomputers. Then
he made it run on a PC, right on any desktop.

He made sure that TBBS is always easy to operate, no matter what job
you tackle with it. On the surface, it looks like an electronic
bulletin board or an information system. As you begin to work with it,
you quickly see that TBBS is much more.

%X0E% There's virtually no degradation in performance as users are
added. TBBS doesn't "max out" as you approach 16, 32 or even
        96 lines supporting 2400, 4800, 9600 -- up to 115200 bps!%X03%

TBBS is expandable, so you can have one line or host up to 96 users
simultaneously. Phil's Bread Board System approach makes sure you'll never
need to be concerned about tricky problems that surround simultaneous
multi-user access to a shared group of files. And it ensures that the
results you get are what you expect.

TBBS maintains high throughput. Your users always have the responsive
speed of single-user systems. They will never guess they're sharing the
system with 40 or 50 other people.

%X0E% There are over 4 billion possible combinations of the 32
individual access flags that TBBS can detect in a single
menu item. Access flags, keyed to ANSI color and control
and IBM Graphics configuration settings, allow menu items
to be keyed to these settings.%X03%

And a single TBBS information management system can appear many different
ways to separate audiences. One area might be an employee's news section
for announcements about promotions, vacant positions, new employees,
price drops, sales programs, employee property for sale.

Another area could support a marketing department's customer support
database. And, still using the %X0E%same system%X03%, there could be customer
access to information about new products, public financial data, technical
tips, and instructions as to how to place orders, 24 hours a day.

You can start small and grow easily with TBBS. Prototype, refine and
test your design, beginning with a few basic templates. TBBS expands its
functionality as you add menus. Then, in one afternoon when you're ready,
using a menu-driven editor, you can quickly plug in and activate 4, 8, 16,
32 or even 96 simultaneous users.

The TBBS Information Manager is packed with features that make designing
and running a multi-user information system very easy. It has ANSI and
IBM Graphics full-color information presentation, support for the Remote
Imaging Protocol (RIP) graphical interface, menus that chain and
auto-execute, and integrated messaging.

There's real-time multi-user conferencing, and multi-level lock and key
authorization and security. It supports separate caller accounts, a
wide variety of communications protocols, distribution lists and
courtesy-copy (cc:) mailings. And there's more.

%X0E% eSoft is committed to supporting industry standard file
transfer protocols. TBBS supports all popular protocols,
including ASCII, XMODEM, KERMIT and ZMODEM-90 (Tm). It
also supports several specialty protocols for streaming,
high-speed asymmetrical modems, as well as sliding
windows for packet-switched networks and satellite
        delay links.%X03%

A key to integrating The Bread Board System's ease of use and power
is Phil Becker's unique approach to software design. With TBBS, you
don't have to be a programmer to set up a fully customized system.

And you'll never have to be concerned with any of the problems that
arise from simultaneous multi-user file access. TBBS automatically
handles all the complicated tasks, such as when users simultaneously
save, read and delete messages, download the same files, or respond to
the same questionnaires or ballots.

All TBBS requires is an 80386 (or greater) IBM-compatible hardware,
640k of user memory, a hard drive and plain-vanilla PC- or MS-DOS
3.x or higher.

TBBS' Expansion Modules let you increase your information power.
Add The Data Base System (TDBS) Compiler and Expansion Module, and
the TBBS Information Manager supports multi-user dBASE III Plus
applications. Now TBBS has full database information storage,
manipulation, retrieval and presentation.

Add The Integrated Mail System (TIMS) Expansion Module. TBBS
acquires true, multi-user store and forward e-mail capabilities.
TIMS runs transparently in the background, and doesn't interrupt
other online sessions.

There's more. The QWK Support Option (QSO) lets you add support for
industry-standard QWK offline mail readers. The Sysop Option Module,
SYSOM, expands the selection of sysop utilities to include remote
monitoring, text editing, and online user maintenance. There's
UltraChat, the most advanced entertainment chat system ever developed
for a bulletin board. And InterChange gives TBBS a wide array of
serial gateway connectivity.

Standard IBM-compatible asynchronous serial ports can be used
for systems up to 2 lines. A multi-port serial adapter is required
for three to 96 lines.

Powerful features such as library files, macros, embedded commentary,
etc., allow you to easily design and control even the most complex
menu structures.

Whether you're implementing a single line or a multi-line TBBS, the
integrated menu editor allows you to fully customize all text and
system operations to your exact needs. Consultants and systems
integrators will find the System Definition Language compiler speeds
development and eases maintenance of large systems.

Segmenting or blending information and data areas is template-driven
too. You can respond to a variety of circumstances - adapting,
growing and adding to TBBS as you go. And as you change the system,
security and reliability are never compromised.

Menu items that execute automatically, plus chained menu commands,
allow you to extensively customize the look and feel of your
individual system. You can present many operations to your users
without requiring their intervention.

TBBS receives and transfers data and information files between its host
and nearly every terminal, computer or communications software package
on the market. It can act as a hub for many different types of computers
needing to exchange information.

TBBS handles up to 60,000 pieces of correspondence, placed in
either private or public message or conference areas. And its file
presentation options allow you to organize data or program files for
maximum ease of access by the system's users.

%X0E% TBBS Distribution Lists allow mailings to be automatically
directed via established user rosters. Courtest Copies
(cc:) of messages or correspondence can be easily routed
to separate lists of users. The Return Receipt feature
notifies message senders with time/date stamped
announcements that messages and e-mail have been
        retrieved.%X03%

Electronic Envelopes can enclose text or binary files within a TBBS
message addressed to either an individual or to a group. The recipient
is automatically notified, and can elect to download the attached file
using the transfer protocols supported by TBBS.

Users have the option of using cubbyholes, a unique feature which gives the
caller the ability to store their correspondence in a special private
section for later retrieval or reply.

The data and information files you make available to TBBS users can
be grouped in a variety of ways. The number of file areas is limited
only by the amount of available disk space on the host system. And
you can stipulate various security measures.

TBBS users can scan lists of files that you make available for downloading.
Files can be listed by the newest entries first, based on either the last
time a user logged on or by user-defined dates.

%X0E% TBBS allows a variety of user control, including default
new-user authorization, terminal configuration, access to
certain files, assignment of user classes, user assignments
by time of day or to designated telephone numbers only, etc.
TBBS authorization templates allow easy, single-keystroke
updating of any or all security options.%X03%

Other information retrieval features allow users to display the contents
of archived files in several formats (including Macintosh specific
formats) and to search for a particular text string that may be included
in either the data set name or description. Users can initiate a download
for a single file, for a string of files by name, or can use wild-card
descriptors.

TBBS' real-time, multi-user conferencing facility allows several users,
not matter how widely separated, to hold a meeting. Connecting through
TBBS, users can exchange viewpoints about a topic, or casually chat
among themselves. (For systems with an entertainment focus, you can
expand the capabilities of TBBS chat with the optional UltraChat add-on
module.)

TBBS' Question and Answer capabilities provide online order taking,
voting, polling, user surveys, registration or virtually any other
interactive data gathering task you might require. Based on user
responses to questions in the survey, the user's authorizations
and profile can be modified automatically by the survey itself.
The Question and Answer Language, a simple, keyword-based text
language, offers tremendous flexibility in the creation of data
gathering scripts.

You'll find TBBS Expansion Modules, mentioned above, provide a blend
of interactive and batch capabilities that replace custom
applications costing much more in time, effort and money.
